Medical Assistant (Companion)

About the role

The Medical Assistant (Companion) supports migrant beneficiaries by escorting them between IOM premises and designated health facilities, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and safety throughout medical visits.

Key responsibilities

• Transport beneficiaries to and from healthcare appointments while providing emotional reassurance.
• Assist with completion and clarification of medical forms, prescriptions, and other documentation.
• Handle administrative tasks at medical facilities, including registration, scheduling follow‑up appointments, and managing records.
• Communicate any observed medical or psychosocial concerns to IOM medical staff or caseworkers, especially protection‑related issues.
• Maintain up‑to‑date logs of accompaniment activities, incidents, and daily reports for the Migration Health Unit.
• Support emergency health referrals and coordinate closely with external healthcare partners.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least two years of experience in a health‑related setting or working with vulnerable groups such as migrants.
• High sensitivity to cultural, gender, age, and disability issues.
• Fluency in French and Arabic (oral and written); working knowledge of English is desirable.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Practical computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
