Chief Accounting Officer – Oil & Gas (Tunisia)

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned Chief Accounting Officer to lead the accounting function of an international oil and gas company operating in Tunisia. The role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on management of financial reporting, compliance and cost control in a complex, project‑driven environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
• Develop and enforce accounting policies, internal controls and risk‑management procedures specific to the oil‑and‑gas sector, including depletion, amortisation and joint‑venture accounting.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, local GAAP and tax regulations, and coordinate external audits and tax filings.
• Prepare and present group reporting packages, meeting all deadlines and standards.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
• Supervise the accounting team, providing guidance and performance management.
• Maintain relationships with banks, auditors and government authorities.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least several years in a chief accountant or similar senior role within oil & gas, energy or industrial sectors.
• Deep knowledge of IFRS, local GAAP, tax rules and production‑sharing or concession agreements.
• Experience with cost and project accounting for large‑scale energy projects.
• Fluent English; French and Arabic are strong assets.
• International certifications such as DipIFR, CIPA or CAP are a plus.
