Fishery And Aquaculture Officer

About the role

The Fishery and Aquaculture Officer will support FAO's Subregional Office for North Africa in developing and implementing sustainable fisheries and aquaculture strategies across the region. Reporting to the Subregional Coordinator, the role collaborates closely with FAO headquarters and the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and contribute to multi‑disciplinary teams, committees, and working groups on fisheries and aquaculture projects.
• Develop technical, analytical, monitoring and reporting frameworks, tools, systems and databases to support programme implementation.
• Design and conduct research, data collection, validation, analysis and reporting to inform technical standards, policy proposals and innovative approaches.
• Provide technical and policy assistance to member countries, field projects and decentralized offices.
• Back‑stop capacity‑development and knowledge‑sharing activities, including preparation of learning materials and online tools.
• Promote international cooperation, advocate best practices and represent FAO at intergovernmental meetings.
• Participate in resource‑mobilisation activities aligned with the FAO Strategic Framework.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in regional programme planning, implementation and monitoring.
• Proven ability to work with international technical networks and policy‑setting bodies.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with experience producing technical reports and publications.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement abilities.
