Medical Assistant – Companion for Migrant Beneficiaries

About the role

The Medical Assistant (Companion) supports migrant beneficiaries as they travel between IOM premises and healthcare facilities, ensuring their comfort, dignity and safety throughout medical appointments. The role combines direct accompaniment with administrative assistance and basic psychosocial support.

Key responsibilities

• Escort beneficiaries to designated health centres and accompany them during consultations.
• Assist with completion of medical forms, prescriptions and other documentation.
• Handle registration, schedule follow‑up appointments and manage paperwork at health facilities.
• Provide emotional reassurance and basic psychosocial support during visits.
• Report any observed medical or protection concerns to IOM medical staff or caseworkers.
• Maintain accurate records of accompaniment activities, incidents and daily reports.
• Coordinate with IOM medical personnel and external health providers to ensure smooth service delivery.
• Support emergency health referrals and other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work or related field, or high school diploma with relevant experience.
• At least two years of experience in a health‑related setting or working with vulnerable groups such as migrants.
• Fluency in French and Arabic (oral and written); working knowledge of English is desirable.
• Sensitivity to cultural, gender, age and disability issues.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
