About the role
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Tunisia is seeking an Assistant Human Rights Officer to support its mission of promoting and protecting human rights. This UN Volunteer position will involve research, monitoring, stakeholder engagement, capacity development, and advocacy activities across the country.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and document human‑rights developments, including political, legal, institutional and social trends in Tunisia.
- Conduct research, collect and analyse information, and contribute to reports, briefing notes, assessments and analytical summaries.
- Support the design and delivery of human‑rights training sessions, workshops, seminars and awareness‑raising activities for government institutions, civil society and other stakeholders.
- Assist in integrating human‑rights and gender perspectives into programme planning, implementation and monitoring.
- Engage with local communities, civil‑society organisations and vulnerable groups to document concerns and inform advocacy.
- Organise meetings, consultations and coordination activities with government entities, UN agencies and development partners.
- Draft communication materials, presentations, speeches, briefing notes and advocacy products.
- Contribute to a collaborative, learning‑oriented work environment and support additional tasks as assigned.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field.
- Up to one year of experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or a related area.
- Sound understanding of human‑rights principles and their social, political, economic and gender dimensions.
- Strong research, analytical, drafting and reporting abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams and demonstrate professionalism, integrity and accountability.
- Commitment to gender equality and inclusion.
