Fiber Network Planner – Damascus Based

About the role

The Fiber Network Planner will be based in Damascus, Syria and will be responsible for planning and optimizing DWDM and optical transport network capacity. The role involves translating traffic demand into detailed wavelength and transport designs and delivering implementation‑ready documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop DWDM/optical transport plans for backbone, metro and inter‑site connectivity.
• Convert traffic, service and IP/MPLS requirements into wavelength, channel, OTN and capacity plans.
• Design and validate optical paths, protection schemes, diversity, regeneration, ROADM/OADM usage (including CDC‑F), transponder capacity and power‑budget constraints.
• Review existing inventory, fibre routes, shelf/card/port capacity and wavelength utilisation.
• Coordinate with fibre planners, IP/MPLS planners, operations, vendors and implementation teams.
• Produce planning outputs such as wavelength allocation, trail/path records, equipment requirements and migration plans.
• Identify risks related to capacity exhaustion, route diversity, optical impairments or inaccurate records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecom or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in DWDM/OTN/optical transport planning or engineering.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Strong stakeholder management and documentation habits.

Required skills

• DWDM, OTN and optical transport planning.
• Wavelength planning, ROADM, CDC‑F ROADM, transponders and muxponders.
• Optical budget analysis, fibre impairments, ITU‑T grids, Flex Grid, Super Channels.
• Multilayer protection (OLP, ASON, G.8032), SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 (PTP).
• Experience with major optical vendor NMS/EMS and inventory systems.
• Vendor optical transport certifications, MEF/Carrier Ethernet knowledge, ITIL Foundation preferred.
