Seasonal Interpretive Host - North Africa American Cemetery

About the role

The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), which operates and maintains 26 cemeteries and 31 memorials and commemorative sites in 17 countries, is looking for a Seasonal Interpretive Host to support visitor services at the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia. This is a temporary, seasonal position of about three months, working 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome and greet visitors and act as a friendly, informative first point of contact.
• Give visitors a general orientation to the cemetery, its history and its significance.
• Answer questions and give information about the cemetery, memorial, chapel, burial plots and the Wall of the Missing.
• Provide directions to specific graves and help visitors find areas of the cemetery.
• Explain the military campaigns and historical events associated with the cemetery.
• Assist individual visitors and groups during their visit.
• Identify potential next-of-kin visitors and help them locate a specific grave, coordinating enhanced next-of-kin services when appropriate.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience working with the public, preferably in visitor services, tourism, hospitality, education or a similar field.
• Good command of English and fluency in the local language.
• Knowledge or interest in history, military history, tourism or cultural heritage is an advantage.
• Willingness to work weekends and holidays as required by the cemetery's visitor schedule.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable speaking to individuals and groups.
• Reliability, punctuality, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and professional appearance and conduct.

The expected start date is after completing the required security clearance. The application deadline is 31 October 2026. The gross salary is TND 8,005 for the 3-month period.
