National interior design Expert

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a National Interior Design Expert to support the adaptation of social housing units for families with members who have disabilities. The consultant will work closely with UN‑Habitat and the Tunisian Ministry of Equipment and Housing to ensure that new homes are accessible and meet the specific needs of disabled occupants.

Key responsibilities

• Develop interior design plans for homes built under the National Social Housing Program.
• Incorporate disability‑specific adaptations and universal design principles into each unit.
• Coordinate with UN‑Habitat, the Ministry, and local stakeholders to align designs with policy and technical requirements.
• Prepare detailed documentation, drawings, and specifications for implementation.
• Support monitoring and evaluation of the renovation works to ensure compliance with accessibility standards.

Required profile

• Professional background in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
• Experience designing or adapting residential spaces for people with disabilities.
• Familiarity with Tunisian building regulations and UN‑Habitat guidelines.
• Ability to work on a 12‑month consultancy in Tunis, Tunisia.

Required skills

• Knowledge of universal design and accessibility standards.
• Ability to produce clear interior design drawings and specifications.
• Strong coordination and communication skills with public‑sector partners.
