Migration Health Physician

About the role

The Migration Health Physician provides clinical services to migrant populations, ensuring health‑screening, treatment, and referral processes are carried out in line with national standards. Working within IOM’s migration health programmes, the physician supports vulnerable groups and coordinates with partner organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Review client medical histories, vital signs, and relevant symptoms.
• Conduct thorough physical examinations focused on condition‑specific systems.
• Interpret X‑rays, laboratory results and recommend further investigations or referrals.
• Prescribe preventive, curative, rehabilitative, or referral care according to national guidelines.
• Provide counselling and information to patients and families, and arrange follow‑up care.
• Document all patient consultations accurately.
• Facilitate referrals and transport of critical cases to secondary health facilities.
• Act as a medical escort for unwell patients traveling domestically or abroad when required.
• Support national staff (nurses, midwives, paramedics) and maintain coordination with outreach NGOs.
• Inform referral centres about cases with significant medical conditions.
• Maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring kits are stocked and within expiration dates.

Required profile

• Qualified clinician (medical doctor) with experience in migrant health or vulnerable population screening.
• Familiarity with national health standards and referral procedures.
• Ability to work in field settings and coordinate with multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills for patient counselling and partner liaison.
