Legal Counsel - Libyan Law Specialist

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Legal Counsel with expertise in Libyan law to join our legal team in Tunis, Tunisia. The role involves advising on legal matters involving Libyan jurisdictions, supporting cross‑border operations, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate and timely legal advice on civil, commercial, administrative and labour matters governed by Libyan law.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, MoUs, joint‑venture and partnership agreements, and compliance documentation.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in Libya and advise internal stakeholders.
• Liaise between Tunis‑based operations and Libyan clients, authorities and counterparties.
• Support interactions with Libyan ministries, regulatory authorities, licensing bodies and legal institutions.
• Assist in mitigating legal risks, managing disputes and supporting internal compliance processes.
• Contribute to internal training and awareness sessions related to Libyan legal frameworks.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognized university; postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
• Admitted to practice law in Libya or demonstrable expertise in Libyan legal matters.
• Minimum three years’ legal experience, preferably with cross‑border or in‑house advisory work.
• Fluency in Arabic and English; French is an asset.
• Strong legal drafting, analytical and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication skills with a culturally sensitive and professional demeanor.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
