Instructional Designer (Online Courses)

About the role

University of the People is seeking an Instructional Designer to partner with Subject Matter Experts and develop high‑quality, fully accessible online courses. The role focuses on applying proven andragogical methods and modern instructional tools to create engaging learning experiences for a global student body.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design and develop online courses.
• Provide expertise in instructional planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Review course materials for copyright, ADA and Section 508 compliance.
• Work with the Course Developer team to create accessible, interactive content elements.
• Integrate appropriate teaching and learning theory and distance‑learning principles.
• Assist in selecting instructional materials and designing learning activities.
• Guide the creation of effective assessments of student learning.
• Identify high‑quality open education resources (OER) and contribute to curricular mapping.
• Track project progress and ensure timelines are met.

Required profile

• Experience in instructional design for online higher‑education environments.
• Familiarity with ADA and Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Ability to work independently as a self‑starter in a remote, fast‑paced team.
• Strong collaboration skills with faculty, department chairs, and internal teams.
