Director, North Africa

About the role

The Director leads and oversees WWF’s engagement across North African countries – Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt – with a primary focus on Tunisia where most staff and projects are based. The role provides strategic leadership to all WWF staff in the region and line‑management to the North Africa Senior Management Team.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure timely, on‑budget delivery of conservation projects, aligning them with WWF’s global priorities and donor standards.
• Develop and implement strategic plans, set nationally relevant priorities, and balance impact, risk and resources across the programme portfolio.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, governments, local communities and strategic partners to secure funding and advance advocacy goals.
• Oversee operational excellence, including compliance with WWF International policies, donor requirements, local regulations, and risk management.
• Provide visionary leadership, fostering a high‑performance culture, staff development, and alignment with WWF values and behavioural standards.

Required profile

• 10‑15 years of professional experience in a senior leadership role, with at least five years in the North Africa region.
• Master’s degree in Business Management, International Relations, Development or a related field; a degree in environmental or conservation studies is a plus.
• Proven track record of designing and leading large‑scale conservation or development programmes and managing multi‑donor budgets.
• Experience with conservation INGOs or international organisations is highly desirable.
