Deck Officer

About the role

The Deck Officer will be based on‑site in Jendouba and will be responsible for the safe navigation and overall operation of the vessel. This full‑time position requires close collaboration with deck crew, the engine department and shore‑side teams to ensure efficient and compliant shipboard activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and monitor voyages, maintain charts and modern navigational equipment, and ensure compliance with maritime regulations.
• Supervise deck crew, organise cargo loading/unloading, stowage and mooring operations.
• Conduct safety and security drills, inspect fire‑fighting and safety equipment, and uphold safety procedures.
• Maintain accurate logs, records, checklists and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate with the engine department and shore‑based teams to support efficient vessel operations.

Required profile

• Strong navigation and seamanship skills, including watchkeeping and voyage planning.
• Knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code and ability to lead safety‑management and emergency‑response activities.
• Experience in cargo handling, deck operations, mooring and deck maintenance.
• Leadership, communication and organisational abilities to supervise crew and manage documentation.
• Relevant maritime certifications such as Officer of the Watch (OOW), STCW‑compliant training and a valid medical fitness certificate.
• Proven experience on commercial vessels or in a similar deck‑officer capacity.
