AI Product Engineer (Backend, Node.js)

About the role

Smeetz is an AI‑powered unified commerce platform serving European leisure and entertainment venues such as theme parks, museums and theatres. The AI Product Engineer owns the backend of two AI surfaces – the Smeetz MCP server and an AI chatbot – and works on both engineering and product aspects to deliver reliable, high‑performance services.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end backend of the MCP server and AI chatbot, including services, tool surface, agent logic and guardrails.
• Design, build and maintain APIs and integrations that connect AI surfaces to ticketing, bookings and payments, ensuring security, performance and reliability.
• Monitor and improve reliability metrics such as latency, error rates and cost per call using observability data (Langfuse).
• Develop an evaluation layer to measure prompt and model changes before release.
• Participate in on‑call rotation for the services you own.
• Collaborate with product owners and venue teams to translate usage insights into technical specifications and priorities.
• Define success metrics for shipped features and report on outcomes.
• Document the services and extend the shared Claude Code skill library.

Required profile

• 5+ years of production code experience, including 3+ years building and running backend APIs.
• Proven experience shipping at least one LLM‑based feature to real users, handling tool calling, structured outputs, cost and latency control.
• Ownership of a production system with on‑call responsibilities.
• Comfortable communicating with non‑technical stakeholders and translating their needs into technical work.
• Fluent English.
