System & Database Architect (Remote)

About the role

DolphX is seeking a senior System & Database Architect to design and own the data and systems backbone that powers its 40+ editorial properties. This full‑time remote role focuses on building scalable, reliable architectures that turn billions of behavioral touchpoints into clean, queryable data.

Key responsibilities

• Design robust, scalable system and data architectures across all properties.
• Define data models, storage strategies, and partitioning/sharding approaches.
• Optimize query performance, manage schema migrations at scale, and ensure high‑traffic reliability.
• Implement monitoring, tracing, alerting, and SLOs for observability.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to deliver clean, actionable data pipelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience designing and operating backend systems and data infrastructure in a product environment.
• Proven track record of shipping and maintaining production systems at scale.
• Demonstrable architectures, public references, or write‑ups of past projects.
• Senior‑level autonomy to solve ambiguous scaling or data problems.

Required skills

• Deep SQL expertise (PostgreSQL or equivalent).
• Data modeling, schema migrations, indexing, transaction management.
• Partitioning, sharding, replication, caching (Redis or equivalent), read/write separation.
• Experience with relational, columnar, and NoSQL stores.
• Distributed systems, event‑driven/streaming pipelines, API design, idempotency, consistency trade‑offs.
• ETL/ELT design, batch and streaming ingestion, analytical warehouses (BigQuery, ClickHouse, Snowflake).
• Monitoring, tracing, alerting, SLO definition.
• Hands‑on experience with a major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
