Senior Piping Engineer (AutoCAD Plant 3D)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Piping Engineer with deep expertise in AutoCAD Plant 3D (or equivalent plant design software) to lead our engineering team on projects for a major German industrial plant design company. You will design complex piping systems for refineries, hydrogen plants, petrochemical facilities, and energy‑efficiency projects while coordinating with German and international multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain 3D piping models using AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant or E3D.
• Review and validate piping models, general arrangement drawings, isometrics, support details, steel structures and material take‑offs (MTOs).
• Create layout drawings for plant areas, equipment arrangements and routing.
• Model and detail primary and secondary steel structures and develop comprehensive support concepts.
• Perform clash detection, constructability checks and coordinate piping with equipment and structural elements.
• Incorporate vendor data, package information and as‑built documentation.
• Collaborate closely with Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural and E&I disciplines.
• Participate in internal and client design reviews and present technical decisions.
• Ensure compliance with EN/DIN/ISO standards and client specifications.
• Contribute to planning, workload management and quality assurance.
• Mentor and support junior piping engineers.

Required profile

• 5+ years of piping engineering experience in process plants.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering or a related field.
• Strong command of spoken and written English for daily communication with German teams.
• Proven experience supervising or mentoring engineers.

Required skills

• AutoCAD Plant 3D (or equivalent platforms such as SmartPlant/E3D).
• Navisworks for clash detection and model review.
• Plant 3D specification management.
• Advanced knowledge of piping components, materials, layouts and process equipment.
• Solid understanding of P&IDs and multidisciplinary coordination workflows.
• Experience with GA drawings, isometrics, steel structure modeling and support design.
