Senior Algorithmic Trading Platform Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Algorithmic Trading Platform Engineer to design and deliver a scalable platform for short‑term gas trading. The role is freelance, remote, and will run for six months with a possible extension, supporting a major European energy market player.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build a scalable Algo Development Platform that enables traders to develop, test and iterate strategies within a governed framework.
• Deliver a proof‑of‑concept to evaluate reuse of an existing forward‑hedging execution tool for algorithmic gas trading.
• Prepare and validate a gas test environment for short‑term trading, including end‑to‑end setup.
• Define and implement data structures, interfaces and technical prerequisites in close collaboration with gas traders.
• Create dedicated API endpoints between trading‑logic runners and the order‑execution platform.
• Manage streaming services for live market data (gas price feeds) and enhance the frontend UI for additional strategies and scenarios.
• Develop and integrate Python and Java applications with Azure services (AKS, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka).
• Collaborate with architects and team members to ensure scalable, efficient and secure software solutions while maintaining code quality and documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven hands‑on experience building an algorithmic trading platform.
• Strong background in energy trading, financial markets or quantitative trading systems.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
