Data Engineer (Rust / Streaming / Kubernetes / GraphQL)

About the role

SambacLab is looking for a Data Engineer to join its data team, responsible for real‑time data processing and reliable data delivery to customers, operators, analysts, and data scientists. The role focuses on building Kubernetes‑native data products with a strong emphasis on Rust and a federated GraphQL data access layer.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement batch and streaming data processing products that run natively on Kubernetes.
• Develop and maintain Rust services for streaming ingestion, transformation, data connectors, event‑driven processing, and data‑serving APIs.
• Build and operate Kafka‑based streaming pipelines, handling topics, partitions, consumer groups, replay, and observability.
• Create lakehouse‑style storage patterns using Delta Lake, Parquet on object storage, and optimize for performance and cost.
• Implement and manage core data stores such as time‑series databases (e.g., TimescaleDB) and other purpose‑built persistence layers.
• Contribute to the federated GraphQL layer: schema design, composition, governance, pagination, resolver performance, and caching.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architectural decision records.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, propose solutions, estimate effort, and deliver iteratively.
• Support platform tooling and delivery practices including Helm, Argo Workflows, GitOps, and CI/CD pipelines.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering fundamentals (data structures, concurrency, debugging, testing).
• Professional experience with Rust or a demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly.
• Experience with asynchronous programming (Tokio) and building production‑grade services/APIs.
• Solid knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and related deployment concepts.
• Hands‑on experience with streaming systems, preferably Kafka.
• Track record of delivering production systems with monitoring, alerting, and operational ownership.
• Proficiency with Git, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, and GitOps workflows.
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
